Course Information
This ILM Level 3 programme in Leadership and Management is a good introduction to studying at Level 3. You will attend live lessons virtually via Zoom or Teams – this means that you will get the benefit of full teacher and fellow student interaction but from the comfort of your own home or workplace.
You will study a minimum of 2 topics and these will be published in the course factsheet. The following are some of the available units:
Understand the Organisation and its context – you will gain an understanding of the organisation as an entity and the context within which the organisation operates
Understanding Recruitment and Selection and Induction of New Staff in the Workplace – you will learn how to plan to recruit, select new staff in the workplace and understand the induction process and the effectiveness of an induction process
Understand how to establish an effective team – you will gain an understanding of how to develop and maintain effective working relationships and how to build a team
How to motivate to improve performance – you will gain an understanding of the factors that influence motivation levels in the workplace and how a theory of motivation can be used to improve performance levels
Giving Briefings and Making Presentations – you will learn how to plan, conduct and evaluate a briefing or presentation
Solving Problems and Making Decisions – you will learn how to describe a problem, its nature, scope and impact, how to gather and interpret information to solve a problem, how to evaluate options to make a decision, plan, monitor and review the implementation and communication of decisions
Understanding Leadership – you will gain an understanding of the different leadership styles and leadership qualities and review your own leadership qualities and potential
Understand Performance Management – you will gain an understanding of the value of assessing performance to meet organisational and individual needs, how to manage performance of individuals in the team and the value of feedback in the workplace
Understanding Training and Coaching in the Workplace – you will gain an understanding of how to provide training appropriate to the workplace and how to coach an individual in an organisation
Managing Workplace Projects – you will learn how to manage a simple workplace project and understand the financial and non-financial implications of a workplace project
Understanding and Planning Innovation and Change in the Workplace – this unit will show you how to plan, monitor and review the implementation and communication of innovation and change in an organisation, you will be able to identify the effects of innovation and change on people and teams, identify the forces for change in an organisation and how to identify and plan change in an organisation

This qualification is ideal if you are have management responsibilities but no formal training, and are serious about developing your abilities. It’s particularly suited to practising team leaders seeking to move up to the next level of management, and managers who need to lead people through organisational change, budget cuts or other pressures.
There are no real entry requirements to this course though we will check that you are in an appropriate position to be able to fulfil some of the assessment requirements.
An informal telephone conversation or email will usually suffice to ensure that this qualification is suitable for you.

The course is planned for 8 consecutive weeks, each lesson is 2 hours in duration and planned for evenings starting at 18.30 and finishing at 20.30
It is suggested that you allocate at least 3 hours per week for your study to ensure that you progress through the course at a reasonable rate.
