Course Information

This ILM Level 3 (equivalent to A-Level) programme in Leadership and Management covers a good range of leadership and management issues and is flexible to allow you to study wherever you like, at a time to suit you as long as you have internet connection!

This course is specifically aimed at middle managers who have people management responsibility or aspiring supervisors with little or no experience.

You will study a minimum of 7 topics as follows:

Leading your work team – you will gain an understanding of the difference between leadership and management and understand a range of leadership styles, their benefits and potential impact on individuals and performance

Understanding change in the workplace – you will gain an understanding of the causes of change in the workplace and you will learn how to support the implementation of change in the workplace.

Understand Performance Management – you will gain an understanding of the value of assessing performance to meet organisational and individual needs, how to manage performance of individuals in the team and the value of feedback in the workplace

How to motivate to improve performance – you will gain an understanding of the factors that influence motivation levels in the workplace and how a theory of motivation can be used to improve performance levels

Understanding conflict management – you will develop your knowledge and understanding of managing conflict and supporting individuals as required by a practising or potential first line manager.

Planning and allocating work –  you will will be able to develop your knowledge and understanding of how to plan and allocate work as required by a practising or potential first line manager.

Understanding the communication process in the workplace – you will develop an understanding of communication as required by a practising or potential manager/supervisor.

Entry Requirements

This qualification is ideal if you have management responsibilities but no formal training, and are serious about developing your abilities. It’s particularly suited to practising team leaders seeking to move up to the next level of management, and managers who need to lead people through organisational change, budget cuts or other pressures.

There are no real entry requirements to this course though we will check that you are in an appropriate position to be able to fulfil some of the assessment requirements.

An informal telephone conversation or email will usually suffice to ensure that this qualification is suitable for you.

Course Duration

As you are studying this course online you can study at a pace that suits you. Please note that we allow up to 18 months for you to complete.

It is suggested that you allocate at least 3 hours per week for your study to ensure that you progress through the course at a reasonable rate.

We estimate that you could complete this course in 20 weeks though this depends on your learning pace and the amount of time you have available.
